Over time, through communicating with people, I’ve shaped a clear idea of what I want to see around me. And the main thing is a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
Motivating others, lending a hand when needed—that’s what I’d like to see around me. Like-minded people.
I’m not against criticism, but sometimes people want to claim more than the situation calls for and use criticism to devalue and tear me down. That crosses the line.
It might seem like harmless criticism—what’s the big deal? But these mechanisms are evolutionary: we strive to occupy a higher spot in the hierarchy. Believe it or not, even leaving a comment about how knowledgeable you are compared to the channel author knowing nothing is a status game.
All these mechanisms are described in the book The Status Game — Will Stor.
In short, people will try to attack others to belittle them and elevate themselves. That is precisely the kind of communication I will put a stop to.
“Dominance is aggression or the threat of aggression. That’s why chickens peck each other to establish a pecking order. We still do this. It isn’t just physical violence. It’s also any form of coercion, intimidation, ostracism, or threats of any kind. If someone forces you to treat them with deference as if they are a high-status individual, that is dominance.”
Criticism is welcome, but only if it’s constructive and avoids personal attacks.
An example of constructive criticism:
“Look, I don’t agree that these drops work because I pick drops with DR < 5, ref domains < 50, and everything ranks fine for me in the top 3.”
This kind of specific criticism adds value to the dialogue and enriches it. It’s a pleasure to debate with such a person and learn something new.
In all other cases, when personal attacks or aggression occur, the commenter will be banned.
Thank you for understanding.
And if you think there’s something wrong with me and that this isn’t how things should be done, you’re right in your own way. That’s your right and your opinion. As for me, I’m not a $100 bill to be liked by everyone.
