I spent a lot of time doing things the way experts advised. That was my mistake. I’ve already shared many examples where things didn’t work for me the way they worked for others. For instance, creating multiple sites and seeing which one ranks in the top—then sticking with that one.
This strategy doesn’t work for me at all. Every site needs backlinks. You can’t just launch 10 sites and wait—a miracle won’t happen, and the site won’t rank high all on its own, as proven by my experience in this post (it got 41 comments—people really resonated with it!).
But that doesn’t mean it won’t work for you 🙂 Maybe you’ll pick up a super powerful niche expired domain and the incredible will happen.
For example, 5 high-authority links with DR 60–80 cost about $1k on the market. Do you really have that kind of money to push 10 separate sites?
Therefore, treat any advice or recommendation, even from an expert, as an opportunity to TEST a hypothesis.
I might try it, or I might not. Even the sketchiest method like directory blasts or blog comment spam—I wouldn’t reject it outright, even though I don’t use it myself.
Maybe someone will tweak the method slightly, modify the approach, and turn that tool into something that works.
Currently, PBNs and outreach links dominate top rankings.
But somewhere out there, someone ranked in the top using directory blasts, profile links, and Web 2.0 sites in some exotic country or niche with no competition.
I think that’s entirely realistic.
I remember a funny incident: a well-known expert in our circles wrote that PBNs with auto-generated content are complete garbage and should never be done. Meanwhile, I was ranking in the top with those exact PBNs and am still doing fine today, a whole year after that manual was released.
So take any advice from even the top people in SEO very, VERY carefully.
