Maksim @affiliatediaries (Telegram) published a series of posts about how we don’t know exactly what affects Google filters and why relying on a single site isn’t wise for long-term work. He also noted that a redirect can be a decent solution for resetting filters.
I found an example in my niche where a redirect actually reduced traffic, and I don’t know the reasons why the owner decided to do it anyway.
There was Site 1 with Ahrefs traffic up to 15k (Ahrefs numbers are relative, but we don’t have other data). A redirect was set up (apparently clumsily, since traffic only started trickling in after 5 months) to Site 2, and in the end, Site 2 started bringing in only 4k monthly traffic and then plummeted altogether.
A brand-new, unaged domain was used:

Backlinks only appeared on it after the redirect. And the migration took 5 months. Well, you can see the end result.
- It’s all about details and nuances—blindly applying it didn’t work.
- If it works, don’t touch it. 🙂
