Competitive Advantage in SEO

People often write to me saying: «I build content sites in the RU web» or «I build doorpages, but I want to start churning out Amazon affiliate sites—what would you advise?»

The main thing I advise is to understand what your competitive advantage is.

Whether you churn out content sites or doorpages, you stand out in some way; you have your own tricks and your own approach that delivers results.

Otherwise, if you did what everyone else does, your results would be like everyone else’s—weak.

But no, you find new niches, secret tactics, and because of that, earn higher revenue than the market average.

Every custom trick gives you additional income.

And yet nobody talks about this publicly, because nobody saws off the branch they’re sitting on.

A book titled «How to Make a Million in a Month» would be stolen right at the print shop before it ever hit the shelves.

Dmitry Sokhach (Telegram channel @amazonpartnerka) put this better than I could:

«If everyone is ordering content at $30 per 1,000 words of English text, you should be getting it for $10–15. While the crowd buys links for $150–200, you need to buy them 2–3 times cheaper and acquire them faster. Think, look for ways to pull it off. And only then is there a high probability that your investment will pay off.»

Think about what your competitive advantage is, and if you don’t have one and are a beginner, I strongly advise taking a sober look at your chances of success in a field you don’t understand yet. You haven’t put in your proverbial 10,000 hours to feel like a fish in water.

My journey involved dozens of moments saying, «Aha, I get it now,» and «Okay, now I understand everything, this time for sure.»

And the more I grow in building sites, the more I realize that there will be plenty more of these «now I get it» moments ahead.

In the screenshot above are 2 of my sites that I launched 6 months ago on auction domains. As you can see, they have weak link metrics and didn’t go anywhere, but at the time I thought these expired domains were absolute gold and that I was about to crush everyone.

One of them didn’t even get keyword visibility. Search Console is completely clean—no penalties whatsoever. But the site simply didn’t go anywhere.
