When to Sell a Website?

Foreign Markets. I’ve been through many Google updates. Regarding sites targeting foreign markets, I can say that right now is the best time to sell sites—I took a sample of 15,000 sites and saw that most of them drop rather than grow after a Google Core Update.

The chances of a site dropping are many times higher than of it growing. My sites have been pulling traffic for a year with no changes in traffic numbers and didn’t get hit by the May update, but still, it’s better to sell 🙂

If Empire Flippers marketplace offers 36x, that’s a very good price.

DOORWAYS. They used to sell for 10x, but to me that’s a low price. My doorway sites live for up to 2 years, so something around 15x-17x would be a good selling price. Over time, doorway sites also get crushed by Google Core Updates and typically lose half their traffic, so after creating a batch, you rest for six months and then need to crank out new ones to cover the decline. It’s a lucrative and profitable niche, allowing you to recoup all investments and earn a ROI of 300-400%.

Overall, I wanted to say that many people in the foreign SEO space couldn’t take it and quit over these past 2 years.

Surprisingly, in our community it is not customary to speak about one’s mistakes, especially if a person sells services. For instance, I’ve never heard market leaders talk about problems—everything is always great, but that’s only half true.

In any Core Update, sites get hit if you take a large sample. Even the top public figures have failures; I personally watched a site that brought in $50k+ a month for a very famous person collapse.

We won’t hear about this publicly, of course.

But I’m telling you as it is—you can make money, risks are high, but the yield is also good. It’s not 10-20% per year, but hundreds of percent.

You want to believe that surely my site won’t be affected, I put my soul into it after all, but no 🙂 better not rely on that :))
