What I’m seeing right now. The spam filter hit doorways pretty hard.
What to do?
Find sites that actually grew during this update and try to replicate them. As seen in the screenshot above, the site only grew from the updates.
The spam filter operates on patterns, and if you build all your sites using the same footprint, there’s a good chance all your sites will get hit at once.
A footprint is the content, its formatting, identical code, and the same theme across all sites.
Yesterday I saw entire networks of hundreds of sites drop during these updates, and their vulnerability was their footprint/sameness.
Specifically regarding that site: it already had traffic, but there were only 6 traffic-generating pages back in June.
In July, they uploaded around 80k pages of content, and 238 pages were already ranking. In August, 8,497 pages. I think the content was uploaded in July.
By mid-September, the site gained +100k traffic in virtually just 2.5 months total. And in 4 months, +200k traffic.
So the opportunities are there.
The guy managed to bypass Google’s pattern matching for filtering his doorway.
