Analysis of a $7,300 Redirect

The domain textinganddrivingsafety.com was bought for $7,300, but instead of lazily redirecting it straight to the homepage, they created a relevant target page: https://infotracer.com/driving-records/texting-and-driving-safety/

In other words, they essentially covered the topic mentioned in the backlink anchors of textinganddrivingsafety.com.

As soon as the merge took effect, traffic grew across the entire infotracer.com site—see the image above.

However, traffic has recently started rolling back down again. What happened? Did the redirect stop working, or did Google decide the site no longer answers the query?

It’s hard to tell now what caused the decline, but the site hadn’t grown at all for a long time—as clearly seen in the chart—and as soon as the redirect was implemented, growth started:

Redirects don’t always work and can be useless. You can set them up repeatedly and get zero results, but in this case, the site clearly perked up after the redirect.

Still, spending $7k to test a redirect is… something not many people can afford.
